Lightning Talk IV - Michael Zagorsek, SoundHound Inc. – Powering Custom Voice Assistants in Cars

The automotive industry was one of the early adopters of voice AI technology as a natural extension of efforts to make driving safer and more convenient. Today, auto manufacturers are looking toward the future of connected cars that go way beyond the ordinary features we’re used to. Making cars a part of the Internet of Things (IoT) has been a growing trend since 2005 and is expected to accelerate in the next few years. Extending the automaker’s brand with custom voice assistants is a critical element of that trend. In this lightning talk, I'll discuss the current state of voice AI in the automotive market along with some future predictions. I'll offer insights into how automakers will differentiate themselves with voice-enabled vehicles that go far beyond command and control of in-car functions, becoming "computers on wheels" and integrating into the larger IoT. I'll demonstrate the power of voice technology that isn't constrained by the old ways of converting speech to text and text to speech, increasing the speed and accuracy of results and allowing people to interact with the things around them like we interact with each other: by speaking naturally.
